Peterson Sherlock Holmes “Milverton” Bent Billiard w/Diamond Shank Estate Pipe
While looking through some of my pipes I came across this beauty. This is a beautiful Peterson Sherlock Holmes series estate pipe. This one is denoted with the shape code called “Milverton” describing the Milverton curve. Peterson described this as a magnum with diamond shaped shank. I don’t feel that this meets the size of what I would call a magnum pipe. In my opinion, the size of this one is comparable to a larger Dunhill group 5 size pipe. This pipe has hallmarked silver banding that was creatively placed at the bottom point of the diamond. This one is clearly marked with the harp, .925 (encircled), and the “Z” (with the tails and in the perfectly square box). The stem is in very good shape with no marks or dents, looks very unused, fit up is perfect, and the tension is tight. As you can see, the rim is in perfect shape with the interior bowl and draft hole showing very little use and in excellent condition. The well/mortise is very clean, it almost looks unused. There is no doubt that this pipe is a looker! It is in very nice condition for its age and is showy with its various contrasting grain.
